Alsace and Beaujolais
Alsace wines reflect the history of the region, in which its control has passed between Germany and France. The German influence can be seen in the importance of single variety wines made from aromatic varieties such as Riesling and Gewurtztraminer alongside less aromatic varieties such as Pinot Gris. In the last decade, however, the area planted for still wines has reduced slightly while the amount planted for Cremant d’Alsace has grown.
We will be tasting a variety of wines from the region including a Cremant and a Pinot Noir.
The Beaujolais region is considered part of greater Burgundy. It produces a large quantity of wine, virtually all red wine from the Gamay variety. We will be looking at three red wines from the region, two of which will come from individual crus in the northern part of the region.
Our presenter is Mat Brian, the manager of the Chichester branch of Majestic Wines. Mat joined Majestic wines as a Senior Store manager 9 years ago and now has the responsibility of Regional Product Trainer, helping with WSET training and also arranging product range reviews with Majestic’s buying team.
Mat has a real passion for wine and loves to share that with others.
This will be his second presentation to the Chichester Wine Society
